　　Wang Yi: Both China and the Netherlands Should Strive to Achieve "Four Supports" and "Four Objections"

　　王毅：中荷两国应努力做到“四个支持”、“四个反对”

　　On June 19, 2019, when jointly meeting the press in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok of the Netherlands, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that I discussed the current changes rarely seen in a century with Minister of Foreign Affairs. Facing the headwinds of unilateralism and protectionism, we hoped both sides will respond to the calls of history, shoulder due responsibilities and strive to achieve "four supports" and "four objections".

　　2019年6月19日，国务委员兼外长王毅在北京同荷兰外交大臣布洛克共见记者时表示，我同外交大臣讨论了当前世界面临的百年变局，面对保护主义和单边主义逆流，我们希望双方响应历史要求，承担应尽责任，努力做到“四个支持”、“四个反对”：

　　First, support multilateralism and oppose unilateralism. As the proper meaning for the democratization of international relations, multilateralism is the requirement in the 21st century for dealing with global challenges. We both believe that unilateralism poses a practical challenge to the current international order and global economy. It goes against the historic trend, fairness and justice. The international community should therefore join hands to safeguard the international system with the United Nations (UN) at the core as well as the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at the core.

　　一是支持多边主义，反对单边主义。多边主义是国际关系民主化的应有之义，是21世纪应对全球性挑战的时代所需。我们都认为，单边主义对现行国际秩序和全球经济构成现实挑战，与历史潮流相违，与公平正义相悖，国际社会应当携起手来，捍卫以联合国为核心的国际体系，以世贸组织为核心的多边贸易体制。

　　Second, support opening up and connectivity and oppose isolation. China thrives on reform and opening up while the Netherlands is underpinned by free trade. Building an open world economy is our common goal and strengthening connectivity is our shared aspiration. Marching toward the goal of high-quality development of the cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative, we are ready to promote the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the Strategy on Connecting Europe and Asia of the European Union (EU), enhance the connectivity of the departments of the two countries in such areas as aviation, port, logistic and customs, as well as carry out third-party market cooperation in Africa, Asia and other regions to realize multi-win results.

　　二是支持开放联通，反对封闭孤立。中国因改革开放而兴，荷兰以自由贸易立国，构建开放型世界经济是我们共同的目标，加强互联互通是我们一致的需求。朝着高质量共建“一带一路”的目标，我们愿推动“一带一路”同欧盟欧亚互联互通战略对接，提高两国航空、港口、物流、海关等部门互联互通水平，在非洲、亚洲等地区开展第三方市场合作，实现多方共赢。

　　Third, support coordination and innovation and oppose monopoly. The human society cannot develop without innovation while innovation cannot be realized without cooperation and exchanges. One cannot make progress through monopoly or hold the lead by bringing down competitors. As major innovation countries, China and the Netherlands can align scientific and technological resources, share the opportunities of the market, protect intellectual property, enhance innovation capability and move forward hand-in-hand in the revolution of new technology.

　　三是支持协同创新，反对垄断思维。人类社会必须依靠创新才能发展，而创新只有在合作和交流中才能实现。独家垄断带不来进步，打压对手保持不了领先。中荷同为创新大国，可以对接科技资源、共享市场机遇，保护知识产权、提升创新能力，在新技术革命浪潮中携手前行。

　　Fourth, support mutual learning among civilizations and oppose clash of civilizations. Both China and the Netherlands have a long history and splendid culture, and support and practice exchanges among civilizations. We will continue to encourage and propel people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries in various fields including education, culture and tourism, and jointly support efforts in elevating the facilitation of personnel exchanges between China and the EU, in a bid to make greater contributions to advancing the mutual learning among different civilizations.

　　四是支持文明互鉴，反对文明冲突。中荷都有着历史悠久的灿烂文化，都是文明交流对话的支持者和践行者。我们将继续鼓励和推动两国教育、文化、旅游等各领域人文交流，共同支持提升中欧人员往来便利化水平，为促进不同文明交流互鉴作出更大贡献。
